Revision to approved Architectural Plan

In a meeting held at the PVHAI Clubhouse last October 20, 2009, the 2009 Hermanos and Hermanas have proposed that they be given the authority to implement the project of finishing the Driveway. They have also proposed revisions to the existing approved Architectural Plan.

Mr. Boy Taggueg as one of the hermanos, stressed that their group is willing to assume full responsibility over the said scope of work including all possible liabilities that may arise as a consequence of such undertaking.

On the other hand, Ed Espiritu representing the Parish Construction Committee informed the group that such proposal should first be brought up to the Parish Priest, who in turn will present the matter to the Tri-Councils for approval.

The two main points raised in the said meeting is the proposed revision to the existing approved plan and the process on how to implement the said work.

In attendance were Mr. Boy Taggueg, Mr. & Mrs. Laurel, Mr. & Mrs. Arban, Mr. & Mrs. Juan, Mr. & Mrs Canlas of the 2008 Hermanos Y Hermanas, Ms. Gina Cacpal as Chairperson of the 2008 Fiesta Committee, and Mr. Ed Espiritu and Ruben Ramirez of the Parish Construction Committee.

RELOCATION OF SIDE WOODEN DOORS
Before the two existing wooden doors on the north and south side of the church can be relocated at the center of the Main Frames and/or Trusses, there is a need to demolish the old columns.

ADORATION CHAPEL

ROOF REPAIRS &/OR REPLACEMENT

Engr. Ruben Ramirez presented two-schemes; one is for the entire replacement of the Adoration Chapel roof, and the other one is for partial correction which involves repair and/or replacement of defective roofs.

Total re-roofing will cost around P89,000.00 while partial correction will cost around P50,000.00.

Although the current budget for the said project is not sufficient, Fr. Greg opted for the entire re-roofing of the Adoration Chapel.

REMOVAL OF CARPET

The carpet shall be removed. Plain colored cement finish will temporarily be undertaken on the floor where the carpet is orginally installed.

A proposal was made by Arch. Allen Aurellado regarding the use of a mechanical ventilation system run by Solar. According to him, this will cost around 600k.

The original plan and details should first be secured from Engr. Mon Santos who was tasked previously to undertake the study for this proposed project.

STRUCTURE FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS DONATED BY THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

The stucture erected by the Knights of Columbus facing the Parish Formation Center was recently turned-over to the Parish. There is a need to transfer the said structure because it is located in a sidewalk which is in front of a privately owned land. Architect Allen Aurellado was requested to check on the best position to relocate the said structure.

The large tarpaulin of 2.2@22 is currently placed on the said structure.

COMPLETION OF DRIVEWAY AND WALKWAY

Proposed Project for 2009 by E.M. Espiritu

The "Completion of the Driveway and Walkways" around the church is the next priority project of the Parish Construction Committee, after the "Completion of the Roof and Ceiling Works", as approved by the Tri-Councils of the Parish.

This project shall be composed of two segments or sub-phase. The first segment or sub-phase is the Walkway around the church. The Walkway is already existing with rough concrete finish, and its current elevation viz-a-viz the church flooring is suited for Finish Tapping. But before this can be done, there is a need to demolish the two existing concrete plant boxes. This will give a more enhanced look of the new church structure without any obstructions.

The second segment or sub-phase is the Driveway in front of the church. It is already existing with rough concrete finish but its elevation is too high viz-a-viz the church main entrance flooring. It this will be finish as-is, the driveway shall be of higher elevation than the church floor which is supposed to be - "one step higher". Because of this, there is a need to demolish the center portion of the driveway to lower its elevation before any finishing can be done.

Once these two segments are complete, the next process is to treat the termination between the Walkway and the Driveway. The current termination is "accident prone" and the temporary measure undertaken by the committee to prevent any accidents that may incur is to place plants. There is a need for a permanent architectural revision on this matter.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

FINISHED TILES TO BE USED:

Architect Allen Aurellado proposed a revised finished tile material to be used for the Walkway and Driveway. Instead of purchasing the finished tile material, he is proposing that these be fabricated.

WAYS & MEANS

PVHA FUN RUN
The Pilar Village Homeowners Association or PVHA has scheduled a "Fun Run Activity" on December 21, 2008. Part of the proceeds will be given to the Parish Fiesta Committee of 2009, which is one of the group tapped to raise funds for the proposed completion of the Driveway and Front Park Project.

The initial proposal is to donate the proceeds to the Construction Fund intended for the said project. Formalities are being undertaken to this effect by way of securing a letter of intent from the PVHA, stating therein that the Parish is a beneficiary of the said activity. Details of the Fun Run shall be given to the Parish so that it can be announced on Sunday Masses.

The proponent of the said activity is Ms. Gina Cacpal of PVHA who also happens to be the Chairman of the 2009 Parish Fiesta Committee.

Mass Announcement for December 7, 2008

In Matthew 10:8, the Lord said, “You received without paying, give without pay.” As God continues to pour out His blessings upon us, let us likewise continue to unselfishly Give for the glory of His Name.

We are almost at the end of completing our construction priorities for the year. The on-going brick-laying and grille works project by the 2008 Hermanos Y Hermanas went into fast phase this week to meet it’s scheduled deadline. What is left are just are just minor finishing touches. They are now in the process of connecting and integrating the new work with that of the previous work, particularly the columns near the decorative side doors. After this, what will be left are just the small crosses for the grilles.

We are pleased to inform you that our 2.2@22 donations have increased this week as compared to previous weeks. As of December 04, 2008, 2.2@22 donations have reached the amount of Php 1,502,425.02 which is now 68.29%. If this continues in these remaining weeks of 2008, we can truly start fresh by the coming year.

The outstanding balance as of December 04, 2008 had tremendously gone down to P697,574.98 which is now only 31.71%. We have received a lot from the Lord, and now is the fitting time to Give as we prepare to celebrate His birth this Christmas.

Marami ang nagsasabi, “Napakaganda na ng ating Simbahan”. We were able to fulfill our dreams because we have never ceased in offering ourselves to God. Let us continue our commitment by way of supporting 2.2@22.

In Matthew 13:35, the Lord said, “Watch therefore -- for you do not know when the master of the house will come”. Utmost preparation for all of us, is Now at Hand . . .

We now enter the season of advent and the on-going brick-laying works project by the 2008 Hermanos Y Hermanas is about to be completed. On top of this unselfish commitment for the Lord, they have also included other related works such as the fabrication and installation of new window grilles and the relocation of the side wooden doors. Now we can see the beauty of our church, with the new ceiling in place, complimented by the new architectural finish of the walls. Isn’t it amazing how the Lord works in each and everyone of us?

Although there is much to celebrate in the coming Christmas season, we still have to be mindful that we still have the commitment to fully settle our obligations for the completed works on the roof and ceiling. Recently, we have intensified our campaign for 2.2@22 by way of requesting all church commissions, ministries and organizations to partner with the different teams in achieving our goal.

By the coming week, we expect to enter the 60% accomplishment target for our 2.2@22.
As of November 26, 2008, donations received amounted to Php 1,312,355.02 which is 59.65%.

"No one is too poor not to give and No one is too rich not to receive". Our outstanding balance in the amount of P887,644.98 can easily be achieved by way of a renewed commitment from all of us.

We have done this and we can make it happen again. We can never outdone God’s generosity in our own personal lives for He surely sees the goodness in our hearts. In thanksgiving, let us offer once more ourselves for the glory of the Lord.

In Matthew 25:34, the Lord said, “Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you.” Whatever we give will be returned to us a thousand times more. . .

The on-going brick-laying works project by the 2008 Hermanos Y Hermanas is expected to be completed before the start of the Advent Season. While some portions are still being clad in bricks, other portions have already been finished. Almost all window grilles have been fabricated and some of them installed to replace the old ones. The relocation of the South Side Wooden Door have likewise started and this is expected to be finished in two weeks time.

The roof of our Adoration Chapel is in need of replacement. Most if not all are already old and rusty and leaks have started to damage the ceiling. Work shall begin by the coming week so as to prevent any further deterioration of the structure.

The race to reach the remaining half of our target has begun. As of November 18, 2008, donations received amounted to Php 1,205,878.02 which is 54.81%. At this point, we wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who continue to support 2.2@22 so that we can meet our target the soonest possible time. We still need to raise the amount of P994,121.98 and with your continued support, our outstanding obligations for the completion of the Roof and Ceiling Works can finally be settled.

Mass Announcement for November 16, 2008

We give glory and praise to Our Lord, for all those good and faithful servants, who in their own humble way, have contributed a lot in our on-going church construction. As the Lord promised, we pray that they receive much more blessings in the days to come.

The on-going brick-laying works at the left side of the church is almost 70% complete. Finishing had begun in some portions and of the columns and walls. The Main trusses are already clad in bricks and finishing will start by the coming week. Alignment of the Stations of the Cross on the left side of the church had already been completed together with the installation of new small grille frames. Painting begun on some portions of the newly installed Window grilles and upon completion, what will be left are the silver crosses. Finishing of the walls on the lower portion of the window grilles are almost complete.

As you can see, we erected temporary covers to undertake the works on the right side of the church. This we have done, so that activities in the church will not be distracted by the on-going work in the said area. Installation of said grilles is currently on-going and expected to be finished by next week. Walls on the right side near the Main Trusses are being prepared for brick-laying works while the Main trusses are already being covered with Bricks.

In God’s grace, we have now reached the halfway mark of our 2.2@22 target. As of November 12, 2008, donations received amounted to Php 1,138,338.02 which is 51.74%. It is our hope and prayer that before the celebration of the birth of our Lord, this coming Christmas, our goal to raise the 2.2 Million will be achieved. We still need to raise the amount of P1,061,661.98 and we believed that the Good Lord will provide us more abundant blessings in order to settle all our obligations.

Mass Announcement for November 01, 2008

In Matthew 5:8, the Lord said, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

Out of the pureness of our hearts by unselfishly sharing our time, talent, and treasures, the fulfillment of our dreams continuous to unfold right in our very eyes.

By God’s grace, we have finally completed installing all the necessary downspouts in order to address the overflowing of gutters. Catch basins on the Canopy Area had already been connected to the drainage system and concrete covers are currently being done. The exposed downspouts shall be clad in bricks in the days to come. Brick-Laying works on Column marked L4 at the left side of the church is almost complete. The Main Truss marked L1 which is currently on-going while Wall Span marked L2 is likewise almost complete. Wall Span marked L3 which is the small wall near the door had already been covered by CHB and shall also be clad in bricks.

In reply to query regarding the relocation of the door, we wish to stress that it is imperative to demolish and remove the old column before the proper relocation can take place. This has been done in accordance with the Plans and Specifications made by our Architects and Engineers. The said relocation is almost complete and the door is now properly located at the center of the two Main Trusses. We also started working on the fabrication and installation of new window grills.

We are almost halfway finish in terms of raising the necessary funds to fully settle our obligations and payables for the roof and ceiling works. Total donations received as of October 29, 2008 amounted to Php 950,340.17 or 43.20% of our 2.2Million target. We still need to raise an amount of Php 1,249,654.83 on or before February 22, 2009 which is the deadline set for 2.2 @ 22.

COMPLETION OF BRICK-LAYING WORKS

IMPLEMENTATION

The completion of the brick-laying works is a project of the 2008 Hermanos and Hermanas. The funding will come from the net proceeds of the Fiesta Souvenir Program.

Last October 9, 2008, the Parish Construction Committee sat with them for this purpose. They proposed not only the solicitation of funds for the brickwork project but also undertaking the necessary work. They will not stop the fund raising until the project is completed. Other than the Fiesta Souvenir Program, one Fund Raising Activity they were thinking is thru sponsorship by span e.g. having cost for a column or wall. They were cautioned however, that other types of fund raising activity should not affect the 2.2@22.

According to one of the Hermanos particularly Engr. Salamat who is a civil engineer and contractor himself, their intention of undertaking the project is to save on contractor's mark-up. Labor and Materials will be at cost. With this desire to save, Fr. Greg Ramos posed the question, "What are the steps to be taken in terms of costing, plans, time table and point persons?"

On the part of the Parish Construction Committee, Engr. Ruben Ramirez and Arch. Allen Aurellado will still lead the supervision of the project, seeing to it that plan is being followed. The Technical Team will be meeting on October 14, 2008 for the purpose of coming up with the necessary cost, plans, time table and point persons. For proper accounting procedure should the proposal be approved, Hermana Chuchi Mabolo, who is the treasurer of the group will coordinate with the Finance Team of the Committee.

The proposal to undertake the project "By Administration" is not within the authority of the Parish Construction Committee to approve. This should be elevated to the Tri-Councils of the Parish. The Councils had already approved that all works &/or projects must be done on a "Contract" basis.

In the regular monthly Tri-Councils meeting held last October 19, 2008, Engr. Ruben Ramirez presented the proposal of the 2008 Hermanos and Hermanas together with the necessary cost estimates and other related works. The estimated cost for this project is Php408,366.00 and they expect to finish it before the start of the Advent or December 12, 2008, once approved. The Councils unanimously approved the said proposal and the Construction Committee was given the go-signal to proceed.

Work began immediately thereafter starting from the door facing the Parish Parking Area. This project is currently on-going.

My dear Parishioners,

Warmest greetings!

It is everybody's dream that the ceiling of our church is completed. I am very much aware that every time you come to church, you can't help looking up and wonder at the unfinished ceiling.

There were issues involving our construction project be we have slowly resolved these issues and we are ready to start anew. The cost of the roof and ceiling works is estimated at PhP3.4 million; our funds available as of July 30, 2008 are PhP1.2 million from the Souvenir Program and the 888 by December 8. We need PhP2.2 million for the completion of the project. That is why we are launching 2.2 @ 22.

If we are to realize our dream of completing the project, we need to work hand in hand to raise this amount. I know we can. By God's grace and our collective effort, as we celebrate the 22nd anniversary of our Parish, we will have a new ceiling on the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Pillar on 12 October 2008. Let us go and fulfill our dream.

Engr. Ernie Gayomali of Penta Planners, the contractor for the supply and installation of an aircon unit at the Reconciliation Room reported that the unit has already been installed. The drain host will be embedded to the wall by Tadeo Engineering Networks.

PRIEST AND PENITENT CHAIR

Focolare submitted a quotation for the above items which is higher than that of the canvass made by Arch. Ibay at SM. It was recommended that said items be purchased at SM. The electrical mechanism or platform will only be for the penitent's chair. The priest chair shall no longer have an electrical mechanism or platform. Instead, the light indicator for the priest door shall run parallel to the lights of the Reconciliation Room.

JOB COMPLETION
Engr. Fred Tadeo of Tadeo Engineering Networks, the contractor for the Reconciliation Room, reported that he expects to finish and turn-over the project by the Saturday, November 10, 2007. The job completion certification will be approved and signed by Arch. Ibay before the committee releases the final payment.

The contractor, Gras Builders, have been informed of the corrective works to be done so that the retention can be released to them.

The plans submitted by Arch. Valerie should be revised. Take an actual picture from the front door and make an artist's perspective of the whole ceiling to include the ideal position of the lights. Focus on the part to be sponsored by the Hermanas and the bigger portion to be raised by Ways & Means. This will be used for the powerpoint presentation to the Sunday Mass goers. CONTRACT AWARDING:

The committee decided that there will be no more extension of the deadline for the submission of the bid and the contract of the project be awarded to Tadeo Engineering Network in the amount of P139,329.71 for labor and materials excluding bricks. Downpayment will be 30% of the total cost. The construction period will be 45 days. (9 August 2007)

The plan is to convert the orginial octagonal structure into a rectangular structure by adding another building in front of the existing church.

EXPANDING GOD'S CHURCH
Phase 1

In May of 2004, Monsignor Albert Venus transfered an amount of PESOS: ONE MILLION (PHP 1,000,000.00) to the Construction Committee as "Seed Money" to be used for the expansion of the church in accordance with the approved Designs and Plans submitted by Architect Boy Suyosa.

The said amount was raised from various fund raising projects in the past, such as prayer petitions, concert, fiesta, etc.

It was placed initially as a Trust Investment at China Bank. The signatories of the said Trust Investment is Msgr. Venus together with Mrs. Emmy Salazar as Head of the Parish Finance Council and/or Mr. Boy Lacia as President of the Parish Pastoral Council.

After Fr. Greg Ramos took over as the new Parish Priest, the said amount was entrusted to him by Msgr. Venus. He became the new signatory of the Trust Investment account replacing Msgr. Venus.

OUR HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

The Our Lady of the Pillar Parish located at Mercury Road, Pilar Village, Las Pinas City, Metro Manila, Philippines is a Parish Church that was originally built to accomodate around 500 parishioners.

With the growing population of the village and massive evangelization of God's people, the church became over crowded during Sunday Masses and other forms of gatherings. Because of limitted sitting capacity, people either stand on the church perimeters, front garden or at the parking lot.

To address this concern, the Parish embarked on a new mission to expand God's Church. This was launched in February of 2004 and construction started in the following month.

Here, the new journey has begun . . .
